Petty Theft/Shoplifting

Theft is divided into two degrees - petty theft and grand theft. If someone either takes, steals, leads, carries, or drives away personal property of another person, they may be guilty of petty theft if the property value of the stolen items is not more than $400. The punishment for petty theft is a fine of up to $1,000, or by punishment in the county jail of up to six months, or by both the fine and jail.
